Capstone Website Review
Starting with Perkin’s website, I noticed right away the attractive adobe video and info graphic showing the results after experiencing a flipped classroom, technology, and growth mindset interventions. The audience this website reaches include math teachers, but also other educators that are interested in encouraging their students to see that their mindset can be quite powerful, and integrating growth mindset with technology can help students increase achievement. Perkins focuses on common core math as the subject area centered around growth mindset and technology because of the anxiety and struggle many students have around the subject, however I noticed that the idea of integrating technology and the mindset of “I can do this” into lessons can be transferred to any other school subject. Jennifer Perkins’ website is seamless in capturing the viewers attention and shows the information in simple graphs with attractive graphics while providing straightforward videos that showcase the technology used in the program.
The second website I reviewed was made by Jose Cerda. His capstone project focused on capturing the attention and increasing engagement of students by using technology, specifically student made videos. I really appreciated being led to review this site as it relates indirectly with my capstone in regard to the video creation aspect. Cerda’s research presented shows the need for student engagement, and gives the audience buy in. The intervention used by Cerda can be useful for teachers who are struggling to sustain student attention although I really wanted to see student videos and lesson resources from his project as I think I could use them for my own classroom. While I am having students create their own how to videos showing math concepts and problem solving strategies, I think the ideas presented in this capstone would be great to use on other subjects too.
