This week's exploration into 21st century teaching practices led to many new discoveries for me.
After reviewing the ACOT Report I see a real need for teachers to be informed and prepared in the areas the project seeks to improve. 1) Create inquiry-based, collaborative, and knowledge-building tasks focused on math, science, history, and language arts. 2) Use a wide variety of technologies as tools that support learning through composition, collaboration, simulation, and guided practice. 3) Implement a portfolio assessment strategy that includes both student products and performance samples and that increases students’ involvement in, and reflection about, their own learning process. I can see the need for this type of model for teacher development used in teaching credential programs and new teacher support programs across our state. I feel like I could have used more of that structure in my credential program and more time spent or focus on examples of teachers using technology in their classrooms and the intended outcomes for students after being exposed to and learning with technology. This area of exploration of technology ca feel so overwhelming, especially because it is ever changing, but also because there are so many possibilities, but if you remind yourself to be playful with the mindset of trying new things, even if your lesson did not seem to work out how you intended, the students are still learning and being exposed to technology and creativity. In some cases, you may be the only teacher who is giving them time to learn how to troubleshoot and think critically while on a device. Right now, in my state of technology integration, I think I mostly have students use technology in the Augmentation stage. For example, when I assign students a Khan assignment (4 to 7 problems), they are tasked with writing down the problem, then working it out by showing all steps, and all work and when they find the answer, Khan will immediately give feedback as to the accuracy of the answer. I see this as using technology as a tool to improve a lesson. My goal would be to move up to the transformation level while still meeting students needs and using the most appropriate and best use of technology available to me to facilitate their learning and push them to be creative, curious, think critically, and be engaged in the content. When I think of students who are given an assignment involving the four Cs, I envision that they can be seen asking questions they are guently interested in finding the answers to, while sharing their ideas to solve a problem or show evidence as well as listening and building off of others ideas. This week I have used the platform called Explain Everything to demonstrate my example of good teaching practices that show the collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. drive.explaineverything.com/thecode/SHRJQBQ
